We are delighted that we have been able to reschedule the biennial conference of the International Association of Women Judges that was to have been held in May 2020. The conference will now take place from 7 to 9 May 2021 with the conference dinner on the evening of 8 May. Unfortunately, due to the likelihood of continuing Covid-19 restrictions, only New Zealanders (and perhaps Australians and some Pacific Islanders) will be able to attend the conference in person. Others will participate virtually, including many of our keynote speakers and panellists. The conference will be livestreamed and recorded and available for delegates to view until the end of 2021.
The conference will cover issues that are particularly relevant to New Zealand such as indigenous issues, climate change, innovations in the courts, gender equality and disability. It will be especially inspirational for young lawyers and will qualify for continuing education credits.
The other important aspect of the conference is to support the work of the IAWJ and in particular its work in developing countries. It is well recognised that addressing global inequality and in particular gender inequality is essential for sustainable development and for upholding the rule of law. In turn, sustainable development is essential for future global stability and for upholding the rule of law. The IAWJ is committed to the rule of law, to achieving true equal access to justice and to the promotion and protection of human rights in particular for women and girls.
We seek your support to make the conference a success and in particular to provide scholarships to make it accessible to young lawyers from New Zealand and to women judges from overseas who would not otherwise be able to attend the conference.
We have created three packages to support the Conference, please view the packages. Please note we can tailor packages, if neccessary, to suit the particular situations of our partners, sponsors and supporters.
We are gratefully accepting donations to support the Conference, in particular to provide funds for scholarships. In addition, donations can also be made to further the mission of IAWJ. Find our more about how to donate here.
The organisers reserve the right to refuse or return donations and to refuse or sever sponsorship applications if, in their sole discretions, they consider association with a partner, sponsor, associate or donor does not accord with the values of the IAWJ or with the judicial function.
