Sapana Pradhan Malla

Ms Sapana Pradhan Malla has been contributing to advancing gender justice and equality for more than three decades. She has been serving as the Supreme Court Justice of Nepal since 2016. As champion of women’s rights and gender equality, she has been instrumental in the passage of the legislation to ensure equal property right for women, criminalizing domestic violence and marital rape, enacting anti-trafficking law, maintaining confidentiality in accessing justice, decriminalizing abortion, and securing reproductive rights in her role as a lawyer. In her capacity of a member of the first Constituent Assembly in 2008, she actively engaged in the negotiation and drafting of the Constitution to ensure provisions on non-discrimination and rights to equality. She also served as an independent expert in the Committee Against Torture (2014-2016). She has a Bachelors in Law Nepal Law Campus, Masters in Law from Delhi University and Mid-Career Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University.
