Mandisa Muriel Lindelwa Maya

President Mandisa Muriel Lindelwa Maya attained her LLB from the University of Natal, Durban and her LLM from Duke University, NC, USA. She attained her LLD (Hon) from Nelson Mandela University and her LLD (Hon) from Walter Sisulu University.

She was also a Law Lecturer at the University of Transkei; an Acting Judge; Cape High Court & Mthatha High Court: a Judge in the Mthatha High Court: Acting Judge; Labour Court, Grahamstown, Port Elizabeth, Bisho High Courts Acting Judge; Supreme Court of Appeal; a Judge of Appeal; Supreme Court of Appeal: an Acting Judge; Constitutional Court and in the Supreme Court of Namibia: Deputy President, Supreme Court of Appeal: Acting President, Supreme Court of Appeal: and President, Supreme Court of Appeal.

She is a member of the Judicial Service Commission; a council member of the South African Judicial Education Institute; a founding member, Deputy President and President of the South African Chapter of the IAWJ. She is also a Board member of the National Bar Examinations Board; Chairperson of the South African Law Reform Commission and the South African Journal on Human Rights. She is also a member of the Commonwealth Association of Law Reform Commissions; a patron of the Lawyers Against Violence.

She was a recipient of the Fulbright Scholarship and attended the Georgetown University Law & Gender Fellowship Program and the Commonwealth Foundation Fellowship. She is also a recipient of the South African Women Lawyers Association History & Icon Programme.
