Helen Whitener

The Honorable G. Helen Whitener is a Justice on the Washington State Supreme Court (USA). She previously served as a Superior Court Judge and prior to that a Board of Industrial Insurance Appeals Judge, and as a Pro-Tem Judge on both the District Court and Municipal Court levels. She is the first immigrant-born Judge of her court (born and raised in the Caribbean island nation of Trinidad and Tobago), the second black woman to serve on her bench and she is the only openly black LGBT judge in her state and made national history last year becoming the first Black woman to sit on the state’s Supreme Court. She has received numerous awards for her local, national and international work on Diversity, Human Rights and Access to Justice in the courts.
