Faumui Penelope (Lope) Ginnen

Judge Ginnen is Samoan on her mother’s side, from the villages of Safune, Tufutafoe, Leauva’a and Lefaga; and New Zealand Pakeha on her father’s side. She is a District Court Judge with a Family Court warrant, sitting at the Manukau District Court. Before her appointment in 2019 Judge Ginnen divided her time between a children focused family law practice; a corporate governance career; and the care of her own children. Her governance portfolio encompassed a range of sectors addressing wellbeing, including iwi governance, housing, health, mental health and addictions services, Pacific health, a sports arena and an orchestra. She is interested in how indigenous knowledge might inform solution-focused justice, for the betterment of all people before the courts.
